Police: Robbery suspects arrested after running out of gas
Police had no problem finding two robbery suspects after they say the men ran out of gas while trying to get away.
Officers were called to a Wawa location in Spotsylvania at 12:21 a.m. Friday. The victim told police he was approached at Mary Washington Hospital by a man looking for a ride. The victim took the man to the Wawa at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and Harrison Road and left his car to make a purchase inside the store.
When he go back into his car, he was assaulted and robbed by the suspect, who fled the scene in a waiting vehicle.
Deputies say they found the suspects in the area of Plank Road and River Road after their getaway car ran out of gas.
Police have identified the suspects as Johnny Ray Brooks, 28, and Jon Dean Kimmel, 37. Brooks is charged with strong arm robbery and obtaining goods by false pretense while Kimmel faces a conspiracy to commit strong arm robbery charge.
