Potomac Yard Harris Teeter will reopen this fall
At long last, the Arlington Harris Teeter store that was flooded with sewage last year will reopen this fall.
The store, which is located at 3600 Glebe Road in the Potomac Yard neighborhood, closed May 11 after a sewage line at the nearby Arlington County Water Pollution Control Plant clogged. It caused raw sewage to flow into the underground store, which sits under a condominium building.
Since then, the store remained boarded up and closed while the 44,000-square-foot store was cleaned up.
The new store will include new flooring, drywall and paint, updated equipment and expanded selections. Officials said last November that the store had been cleaned at least four times after the sewage spill.
There was not a lack of grocery stores in the immediate area after the closure, though. A Shoppers Food Warehouse and a Target are located in the Potomac Yard shopping center next door, and a Giant sits about half a mile west on Glebe Road.
