Prince George’s County Fire gets $5.8 million in new vehicles
March 19, 2013 - 06:00 pm
In the shadow of FedEx Field, Prince George's County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor took a good look at more than a dozen brand new ladder trucks and command cars.
“For me, as the kid who grew up wanting to be a fire fighter, this is a kid in a candy store moment,” Bashoor says.
It was a moment that was years in the making.
The fleet has a new look and smart-phone-era upgrades. A QR code is plastered on the side of almost every vehicle. The five new paramedic engines, nine command vehicles, two heavy duty ladder trucks and other equipment cost the department $5.8 million.
Grant funds helped supplement roughly $1 million of the total cost.
