CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) - A former Frostburg State University student is starting a 14-year prison sentence for fatally stabbing another female student during an off-campus fight in 2011.

Twenty-five-year-old Shanee Liggins of Waldorf was sentenced Monday in Cumberland. The judge suspended six years of a 20-year sentence.

Liggins pleaded guilty in December to second-degree murder in the slaying of 19-year-old Kortneigh McCoy of Baltimore.

McCoy died Nov. 6, 2011, of multiple stab wounds.

Witnesses told police that McCoy and her friends were thrown out of a party at Liggins' house after an argument involving Liggins. Investigators say Liggins followed the group outside and stabbed McCoy.
