Uber sued after passenger alleges verbal abuse, assault
An Arlington man is suing Uber and a driver after what he describes as a hateful and violent ride that left him injured and embarrassed.
Uber is a luxury sedan service.
Seth Bender alleges the driver verbally abused, assaulted, and kicked him out of the car last year, WTOP reports.
Bender and a friend got into the sedan at 9th and U streets NW on February 13, 2012. Bender says he burped and excused himself, but the driver became angry and went on a rant about hating Americans and homosexuals.
Bender alleges the driver, Hamza Abu Sharia, slapped him and spit in his face.
Uber, the driver, and the company that employs the driver, Eddine Limousine of D.C., are being sued for $750,000 in damages. Uber drivers are paid through Uber, but are not employed by the company.
The general manager of Uber says the driver is no longer associated with the company.
