Valerie Delaney, Howard County native, killed in Navy jet crash in Washington
One of the three Naval aviators killed Monday in a jet crash in eastern Washington was an Ellicott City native, the Baltimore Sun and Associated Press report.
Lt. J.G. Valerie Delaney, a 26-year-old Naval Academy graduate, was on board a E/A-6B Prowler on a training exercise when it went down in a farm field about 50 miles west of Spokane.
Killed were Delaney, 34-year-old Lt. Cmdr. Alan Patterson from Tullahoma, Tenn. and 24-year-old Lt. Junior Grade William Brown McIlvaine III of El Paso, Texas.
Family members told the Sun that Delaney was based at Naval Air Station Whidbey in Washington state and had realized a "life-long dream" by becoming a Naval aviator. She was a 2004 graduate of Centennial High School.
