Virginia Eastern Shore suspicious fire under investigation
ONANCOCK, Va. (AP) - Another suspicious fire on Virginia's Eastern Shore is under investigation.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya says the fire occurred around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday at the old Mallards Restaurant in Onancock.
Resident Clyde Carrow tells WAVY-TV that a crackling sound woke him up. He looked out his window, saw the fire and called 911.
The fire rekindled around 4:30 a.m. Thursday but the Onancock Volunteer Fire Department quickly extinguished it.
More than 60 suspicious fires have occurred in Accomack County since last November, including one on Tuesday night that destroyed a detached building at an old motel.
No one has been injured. Many of the structures have been abandoned.
A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
