Anne Arundel County Council debates allowing tasers
The Anne Arundel County Council is considering allowing residents to carry tasers, stun guns and other electronic control devices, The Capital Gazette reports.
Though tasers are legal in Maryland, individual jurisdictions can ban them if they wish. Anne Arundel County banned them in 1985, but police officers were allowed to begin carrying them in 2006.
The council held a public hearing on the legislation Monday night. Under the proposal, residents 18 and older would be allowed to carry the devices. A background check would be required at purchase.
The bill will be heard again on May 6.
