Bladensburg officer dies following crash in Pasadena
Authorities believe the Bladensburg police officer killed in a car accident Saturday may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.
Officer Brian Johnson was a nine-year veteran of the Bladensburg Police Department. He was off duty at the time of the accident, but he was driving a marked police cruiser.
Officer Johnson was also a fireman with the Bladensburg Volunteer Firefighters’ Engine Company 9, Chief Randy Coonsley says.
According to Anne Arundal County Police, the accident occurred around 9:10 a.m. on Route 100 westbound at Edwin Raynor Boulevard.
A preliminary investigation has determined Johnson was traveling eastbound on Route 100 when he suddenly crossed the median and struck a vehicle traveling westbound.
The operator of the other vehicle was treated and released at the scene.
Correction: The original post of this story said the accident was a single-vehicle crash.
