Timothy E. Halpin killed in I-95 motorcycle accident

Timothy E. Halpin, 68, of Dumfries, Virginia died in a motorcycle accident on I-95 northbound Tuesday morning.

Police got a call about the incident at 4:30am, which took place on 95 before Fairfax County Pkwy. Police said Halpin was driving a 2001 BMW 1200 on northbound I-95 in the left lane when he apparently lost control of the motorcycle. He died at the scene.

The crash involves a motorcycle and tractor-trailer. It was raining at the time of the crash. Alcohol was not a factor.

As the motorcycle slid onto the left shoulder, Halpin slid into the center northbound lane where he was struck by a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer did not stop at the scene.

Witnesses were not able to provide a description of the tractor-trailer. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call Virginia State Police at 703-803-0026.

The incident remains under investigation.
