Four people killed in Queen Anne's County crash

Friends and family of the four young men who were killed in a violent crash on Kent Island Wednesday afternoon are still coming to grips with the loss of the young members of their community.
Thursday night they packed the football stadium at Kent Island High School for a vigil to honor their memories. And it seemed as if all of Kent Island was there.
The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victims as 19-year-old Tyler Elzey of Chester, 18-year-old Harrison Rhodes Smith of Chester, 18-year-old Cory Pessagno of Chester and 19-year-old Michael John Ringenbach of Stevensville.
Both Elzey and Ringenbach were members of the community's volunteer fire department.
"These were some of the most genuine, awesome people you'd ever meet in your life and it's unreal that they're all gone," Tim Jourdak, a friend of the men, said.
The crash occurred in the 700 block of Cox Neck Road near Jones Road on Kent Island at about 4:15 p.m.
Patrick says the four victims were riding in Pessagno's Volkswagen Jetta when, according to witnesses, the car tried to take a curve too quickly. Witnesses then say it skidded sideways and into the path of an oncoming car.
"Both of them were non responsive in the front seat," said Tom Marquant, who was driving on Cox Neck Road and saw the crash. "I turned around and looked at the backseat and saw a tangled mess of two other kids."
The driver of the other car, 73-year-old Eli Dabich, survived. Dabich, a professor at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
Several of the first responders who arrived at the scene and realized that two of the victims were their colleagues had to be led away from the scene.
"Boys are boys (and) we always have fun," firefighter Robbie Cary said.
When it comes down to it, they were great guys."
