Gloria C. Fitzpatrick found dead in Frederick County apartment

On Wednesday the Frederick County Sheriff's Office announced that the death of a 61-year old grandmother has been ruled a homicide.
Gloria Fitzpatrick, who neighbors knew as Carol, was found dead around noon Monday in her unit at the Kingscrest Apartments in Frederick.
The sheriff's office says she was last seen alive at a family event around 5:30 Sunday afternoon. She was found dead by a family member the next day after she didn't show up for work.
"It's so wrong," said Bob Bruce, who lives in the building where Fitzpatrick's body was found. "She just didn't deserve it."
Neighbors tell us Fitzpatrick was a kind woman who was beloved among her neighbors.
"It shocked everybody," said Beverly Pease, who lives in the apartment just below where Fitzpatrick died.
The sheriff's office says there were no signs of a break-in or a struggle before Fitzpatrick's death. The only neighbor who told ABC7 they heard or saw anything unusual was Pease.
"I heard a big thump like somebody had dropped a big box or something had been knocked over," she said, referring to Sunday night. "After that about half an hour later I heard a couple smaller thumps."
After initially ruling the case a suspicious death, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office declared Wednesday that detectives now considered it a homicide.
A spokesperson says as the investigation continued, investigators grew more suspicious of the circumstances of Fitzpatrick's death. An autopsy report confirmed those suspicions.
The sheriff's office won't yet say what the cause of death was. A spokesperson says detectives believe the killer knew Fitzpatrick and specifically targeted her.
Authorities are asking anyone who has any information to please call them.
