Police investigate Gaithersburg stun gun death
Authorities are investigating the death of a Gaithersburg man after police used stun guns to detain him.
Officers were called to the 8800 block of Cross Country Place at 6:11 p.m. Friday for reports of a person acting strangely. Police say 51-year-old Anthony Howard was seen standing in a parked pick-up truck, yelling profanities, striking the truck with rocks and crawling on nearby vehicles.
Officers pepper sprayed Howard after, they say, he continued to act aggressively and failed to comply with given orders. Two officers used their stun guns after he refused to leave the front porch of a home.
When officers restrained Howard, they noticed he wasn't breathing. CPR was performed, and Howard was transported to Shady Grove Hospital, where he died a short time later.
The five officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave.
