An Arlington-based anti-abortion group has released a video in which a D.C.-based doctor appears to say he would not help a baby if it was born alive after an abortion attempt.

The organization Live Action says a woman 24-weeks pregnant shot the video undercover at a clinic run by Dr. Cesare Santangelo.

She is heard asking Santangelo what he would do if an abortion was attempted, but she still gave birth to a live baby.

"I mean technically, you know, legally, we would be obligated to help it, you know, survive," Santagelo says on the video.

The woman presses Santangelo on if he would make sure the child didn't survive.

He goes on to say that if she gave birth to a live baby, "then we would do things. We would, we would not help it."

Live Action President Lila Rose says more undercover videos from other clinics throughout the country will soon be released.

"This project is meant to illustrate the inhumanity of abortion but also how it can easily and does lead to infanticide," she said.

Monday, Santangelo did not respond to a phone message ABC7 left with a receptionist at his office. He also did not respond to a note we left on the door of his home in Northwest.

He is quoted in The Washington Post as saying: “Once the baby is born, it’s out of everybody’s hands, and the baby has rights, too. I understand that, and I support that.”

In the Post article, Satangelo says he considers Live Action members "terrorists."

Rose says by using that word she believes Santangelo is making a desperate attempt to deflect attention from what he said.

Santangelo has not been charged with any crime, but Live Action says if he ever does what he says he would do in the video, it would be a crime.

The Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2002, gives legal rights to a baby born alive after an abortion attempt.
