Reno Saccocia, Steubenville football coach, gets contract extension
The head football coach at Steubenville High School who allegedly knew about two of his players raping a 16-year-old girl and didn't report it received a two-year contract extension from the district, WTOV-TV reports.
Reno Saccoccia, the head coach of the Steubenville Big Red and the director of administrative services at the school, was granted the two-year extension by the region's Board of Education.
Steubenville City Schools Superintendent Mike McVey told WTOV that the decision was based solely on his work as a school administrator.
In mid-March, two of Saccoccia's players, Trent Mays and Ma'Lik Richmond, were convicted of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl at a party last August, a case that sent shockwaves through the community. Both of them were sentenced to at least a year in juvenile detention.
