Rockville puppy theft suspect sought by police (Video)

Authorities in Rockville are looking for a woman who was caught on camera stealing a puppy from a Twinbrook-area pet store.
The theft happened at about 5:30 p.m. on April 12 from the Just Puppies pet store, in the 2000 block of Veirs Mill Road in Rockville.
Employees told police that the suspect came in asking to see a Maltese puppy, then played with the dog for about 20 minutes.
While the employees were distracted, the suspect put the puppy, valued at more than $1,000, into her purse and left, Rockville City Police officials say.
“She walked out with the dog,” says Billie Castro, a Just Puppies employee. “She had stuffed it in her purse and just walked out.“
Mara Fain, another store employee, says the woman asked vital questions about the pup. She says the woman seemed very interested. Moments after she left, Fain realized the puppy was gone.
“I was scared for the dog,” Fain says. “When they are that small, it was hard for us to think of them surviving.”
The Maltese puppy needs special care. Less than two pounds, she must be fed at regular intervals for the next few weeks or risks severe health problems.
“When they’re not getting the sugars, their blood flow and everything starts to have issues and they can start having seizures and convulsions,” Fain says.
Police describe the suspect as a white, 25-30-year-old woman standing about 5-feet-8-inches tall. She had the tattoo of a Cheshire cat on the back of her neck and spoke with an eastern European accent.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Rockville Police.
