Takoma Park City Council to vote on lowering voting age
Takoma Park teenagers will likely soon be able to vote in local elections.
The Takoma Park City Council will vote Monday night on a proposal to lower the legal voting age for local elections to 16. It's likely to pass with six of the city's seven city council members behind it.
Residents as young as 16 would be able to vote in mayoral and city council elections if the measure passes.
During a public hearing held last Monday, a majority of residents who spoke on the proposal were in favor of the change.
