University of Virginia student has the mumps
Another Virginia college campus is reporting a case of the mumps, the Daily Progress reports.
The latest case of mumps has cropped up at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where doctors say a student has contracted the contagious disease.
More than a half-dozen colleges throughout the Commonwealth have reported cases of the mumps in recent months. Most recently, a student at James Madison University in Harrisonburg was diagnosed with the viral infection. Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond have also reported multiple cases.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, mumps can present with fever, headaches, muscle soreness and, most notably, a swelling of the salivary glands.
