UVA full-time faculty pay highest in state
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A new report says the University of Virginia pays the highest average full-time faculty salaries in the state.
Washington & Lee pays the second-highest average full-time salary among state schools.
The American Association of University Professors released its annual faculty salary report Monday.
According to the report, U.Va.'s full-time faculty earns an average $109,400. The average salary at Washington & Lee is $101,800.
The average salary at the University of Richmond is $99,100. Full-time faculty members at Virginia Tech earn an average $89,400.
Nationwide, the report says part-time faculty appointments have outpaced full-time tenured or tenure-track positions.
Co-author and Hampden-Sydney College professor Saranna Thornton tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch that tenure-track positions are largely in fields where there's high demand from the private sector.
