Virginia man stopped at Dulles Airport with handgun
A Virginia man tried to bring a handgun on board a flight out of Washington Dulles International Airport early Thursday morning, but he was stopped by TSA officers who detected the gun along with 19 rounds of ammunition in his carry-on bag as he passed through the security checkpoint.
TSA contacted the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority Police who responded, confiscated the .380 caliber handgun and ammunition and cited the man on a weapons charge. There was no impact to airport operations.
The passenger, a resident of Montpelier, VA, and originally ticketed to fly to Charlotte, NC, was permitted to catch his flight-minus the gun and ammunition.
Weapons, including guns, are not permitted in carry-on baggage. Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are properly packaged and declared.
