A 3-year-old girl is dead after she was crushed by a garage door, police say.
It happened Friday around 4 p.m. on Eutaw Forest Drive in Waldorf, Md.
Police say Leilah Dawn Coady pushed a garage door button on the wall, ran under the door as it was closing, and was pinned underneath.
The mom told police that when she heard the door but realized no one was coming in, she went to check and found her daughter trapped.
The girl was taken to Civista Hospital in LaPlata where she was pronounced dead, according to Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Diane Richardson.
Police say the garage door had sensors on both sides. Detectives are working to determine if the door was working properly.
