Chief Larry Tolliver of Anne Arundel County Police resigns
Anne Arundel County’s chief of police announced his resignation Tuesday after “serious introspection” and isn’t connected to a series complaints, the chief says.
Chief Larry W. Tolliver submitted his resignation to Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman. The resignation is effective May 21.
“I am resigning today because the Department needs a chief who can focus solely on the department’s mission, something that is challenging to do in the current environment.,” he said in a statement.
He went on to say that his retirement isn’t because of a widely-reported complaint by an officer, “false accusations in anonymous communications” or a current inter-agency investigation.
Tolliver also acknowledged that the Department of Personnel complaint against him was founded. It centered on his using an insensitive term “in a joking conversation with a personal friend,” he stated.
