Cicadas are starting to make their presence known around the D.C. area. But you won't find them just anywhere. Most are in Northern Virginia.

ABC7's Adam Caskey was live Wednesday morning in Stafford County and he was able to spot of few of the insects. Adam says the last batch of cicadas emerged in 2004.

The name is derived from the Latin word "cicala" meaning "tree cricket".  Their eyes are prominent and set wide apart. Adam says there are some rare cicadas with blue eyes.
