Dalai Lama to speak to 15,000 students at UMD
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - The Dalai Lama will deliver a lecture to a sold-out crowd of 15,000 at the University of Maryland in College Park.
The university says the Tibetan spiritual leader will speak Tuesday. He will deliver the annual Sadat Lecture for Peace at the school's Comcast Center. Tickets to the event sold out within minutes after the speech was announced in February.
The university says the annual lecture series is part of its Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development program. Previous speakers have included former Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan and anti-apartheid leader and former South African president Nelson Mandela.
