Ellsworth Colbert sentenced to 17 years in prison
The Southeast Washington man who stabbed his neighbor to death over an argument about dog waste was sentenced Wednesday to 17 years in prison, the Washington Post reports.
Ellsworth Colbert originally faced up to 45 years in prison when he was found guilty of manslaughter Jan. 19. He was convicted of stabbing 37-year-old Robert Wright to death last March 4 after Colbert accused him of letting a dog go to the bathroom on his lawn.
Detectives testified during his trial that Colbert admitted to the slaying shortly after it happened.
There ended up being no evidence that the dog soiled the lawn at Colbert's home in the 3600 block of Highland Drive SE.
