Forest Service cuts 5 percent of staff, engines due to sequestration
As the hot and dry weather that comes with summer approaches, the U.S. Forest Service is being forced to cut 500 firefighters and 50 engines this year due to budget cuts.
Federal Times reports that the Forest Service will be forced to eliminate about 5 percent of its budget because of sequestration.
Due to the cuts, Federal Times says that the Forest Service and Interior Department will combine to have about 13,000 firefighters at the ready.
