FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A consulting firm says Fredericksburg would be an attractive market for a minor league baseball team.

Washington-based Brailsford & Dunlavey conducted a market analysis for the city's Economic Development Authority to determine the prospects of a proposed multiuse stadium in Fredericksburg.

The study says a growing population, high median income and a large number of families with children make the city an ideal location for a minor league team.

The study projects that a stadium initially would attract more than 5,000 fans a night. By the fifth year, nightly attendance would be more than 4,000.

The Free Lance-Star reports that the consultants presented their findings to the authority on Monday. Authority members voted to pay the firm $9,000 to conduct a feasibility study on financing the stadium.
