A 59-year-old man is in custody and two people are dead following a standoff situation in Laurel Monday morning.

The suspect in custody is identified as Ronnie Rainey. The deceased are identified as Rainey's 50-year-old wife Lisa Rainey and 26-year-old stepdaughter Ariale Shelton.

The wife and stepdaughter were found inside the home, located in the 16100 block of Malcolm Drive.

Police say Rainey threatened to hurt himself and told police he killed family members and wanted to hurt himself.

Rainey was initially barricaded inside the home but surrendered.

Debbie Lee raced to the quiet community after she'd been told something had happened to her best friend Lisa Rainey. She learned from reporters there had been a shooting.

“She was an awesome friend,” Lee says. “She was a beautiful girl. It’s just senseless it doesn't have to happen.”

According to police, Rainey also tried to shoot the couple's 15-year-old son as well but missed. A man believed to be Ariale Shelton's boyfriend was also at the house. He too was uninjured.

Beyond calling the double murder domestic, police say they don't have a motive. Neighbors say nothing warrants such violence.

“It hurts me,” says Chris Regan. “ If he wanted to hurt somebody he could have hurt himself. Why does he have to hurt other people.. I'm mad . I'm mad about everything that's happening lately.”
