Manassas proposes 7.1 percent tax increase

The City of Manassas is proposing to increase residents’ tax bills by more than 7 percent in order to improve the city.

The city wants to construct a $38 million elementary school, improve sidewalks in its downtown and improve drainage, according to The Washington Post. The tax increase would bump up the average residents’ tax bill to $3,108, the Post reports.

A majority of the city council must approve it for the tax k=hike to go forward.
