Marine Maj. Mark Thompson, jury selection begins in sex assault trial
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Jury selection is under way in Annapolis for the military trial of a former U.S. Naval Academy teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student.
An academy spokesman says the court-martial proceedings began Tuesday.
Marine Maj. Mark Thompson is charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and indecent acts; three counts of conduct unbecoming an officer; and two counts of fraternization.
The alleged incidents happened after two female midshipmen attended a croquet match between the academy and St. John's College in 2011 and had been drinking alcohol. One student reported to Navy investigators that she had been assaulted at Thompson's apartment.
