Michael Grimes has charges against him dropped
WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) - The Carroll County state's attorney says he won't pursue a manslaughter conviction in a 2011 tavern beating because the state's main eyewitness isn't credible.
A circuit judge in Westminster dismissed charges Monday against 49-year-old Michael Grimes of Woodsboro.
Grimes was the fourth and final defendant charged in the slaying of 26-year-old Craig Myers of Rocky Ridge at the Crossroads Inn in Keymar in August 2011.
Three other defendants, all from Hagerstown, were acquitted of murder charges in December. The jury found them not guilty after the state's main witness, Myers' girlfriend, gave testimony that differed from the statement she gave police.
