Montgomery County test scores: School district looks into scores
Joyce Gardner says her son, a Montgomery County high school freshman, studied hard for his honors algebra 2 final. His engineer father even led study groups.
But he failed.
His friends all failed, too, she said. And they weren't alone - in fact, in January, 62 percent of Montgomery County students failed the first semester final in geometry. Sixty one percent failed the high school algebra one final.
The superintendent called the numbers unacceptable.
But it turns out other subject finals had pretty high failure rates too - 51 percent for a world history course, 40 percent in biology and 37 percent in a 10th-grade English exam.
Gardner has all her son's review packets and says she's glad the school district is now looking into the disparity.
