The worker hurt in the incident is in critical condition but is speaking after being freed from the rubble.

The deceased worker is identified as as Carroll Dexter Wills, 57.

Montgomery County Fire officials say a 50,000 pound beam fell at an angle just after 1:47 p.m. at a parking deck near Macy's. The beam fell from the third floor to the second floor, where the two workers were.

Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham says rescuers have confirmed there are no other people inside the structure.

The parking deck was under construction at the time and was closed to the public.

There were about 20 workers at the garage at the time of the collapse.
Video footage from the scene shows a large rectangular section of one of the garage's top deck at least partially collapsed.

According to a mall release, construction on a new, 16-screen movie theater was underway on top of the parking garage, which sits adjacent to the mall's food court.

It was expected to reopen this fall.
