Pets on Trains Act would allow animals on Amtrak trains
A new bill would require Amtrak to allow domesticated cats and dogs on certain trains. Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee and Rep. Jeff Denham of California are co-sponsoring the “Pets on Trains Act of 2013”.
Amtrak’s current policy does not allow pets on trains or Thruway services, in passenger areas of train stations or in checked baggage. Specially-trained service animals are allowed.
• The cat or dog to be contained in a kennel.
• At least one car of each train to be designated for pet transport.
• Amtrak can charge a fee for the pet’s trip.
If signed into law, the Act will overpower Amtrak’s current policies.
