Tonga earthquake 2013: 7.4 quake hits South Pacific

A large earthquake struck the south Pacific Thursday afternoon.

The magnitude-7.4 earthquake struck about 175 miles southwest of the island of Tonga and about 450 miles southeast of Fiji.

The quake originated at a depth of 106.5 miles.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says that a tsunami was not generated by the earthquake.
