The USDA is reversing plans to furlough nearly 10,000 workers due to sequestration after a shift in funding and increased attention to savings, Federal News Radio reports.

An agency spokeswoman, just a week after saying that Farm Service Agency and Rural Department employees wouldn't miss days of work, told Federal News Radio that they now don't expect any furloughs at all.

Hiring freezes and spending cuts were made in several departments instead of the furloughs.

The move comes more than a month after the USDA said it would likely furlough 9,800 food safety inspectors for 11 days each.
