Alison Starling's baby could come 'any day now'
We are, quite literally, in the home stretch. Our baby is now the size of a head of romaine lettuce, or a coconut! And, she's estimated to weigh about 7 pounds – that’s already more than I weighed at birth. At 36 weeks, our baby could come any day, even though we still have a few weeks to go, officially.
We have taken our child care classes (diapering, swaddling, bathing, breastfeeding, burping, you name it!), and my husband passed with flying colors. In fact, he’d proudly tell you that our instructor said he was “the best father to a baby doll” she's ever had in class! I’m hoping that translates.
We had a tour of the Maternity Ward, which was at the same time calming (we now know where to go and where we'll stay) and scary (wow, this is really happening, and soon).
This will be the first grandchild on both sides, so as you can imagine, our parents are ecstatic. They have waited a long time for grandchildren, and we will have to do our best to keep this little girl from being really, really spoiled. It is really fun to watch our families enjoy and prepare for this process with us, and to see them genuinely thrilled to take the step into their roles as grandparents.
They are all brainstorming what names they’d prefer the baby call them -- though a lot of people tell me the baby will likely be the one to determine that! Speaking of names, we are also settling in on a name. Kim and Kanye took North, so I guess we’ll have to cross that off our list.
This photo is from a lunch/baby shower my good friend gave us with family and longtime friends. She asked everyone to make their own onesie for the baby! At first everyone kind of looked at her, we aren't the craftiest group. But you could see by the end, everyone got into it and made us some really creative, sweet keepsakes, some ladies made more than one... it was a great idea and a special day.
I hope to write again before the baby comes, but if not, I'd like to thank everyone for sharing in our joy over the last months. I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers, viewers, friends and family. It's been wonderful to share this truly amazing experience with you.
