DDOT will host the first of three public meetings Wednesday night on plans for Florida Avenue, Northeast. The meeting will focus on the future of Florida Avenue from New York Avenue to H Street and Benning Road.

This part of northeast is a problem spot for commuters and pedestrians every day. It's home to Gallaudet University, Union Market and the NoMa business district.

After a recent hit and run where a 60-year-old woman was dragged 86-feet, city leaders have decided enough is enough. Short term solutions include sidewalk barriers, retimed signals and better lighting.

"I think it will be a band aid," explained Judah Flum. "Anything they do will just be a mess. They just need to come up with a long term solution."

If you want DDOT officials to hear your opinion, you can attend a public meeting on the future of Florida Avenue Wednesday night. It will take place at Gallaudet University in chapel hall and runs from 7-9 p.m.
