The construction of a new ballpark in Loudoun County is now underway.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday. But not everyone near the Ashburn site was exciting about it.

Edelman Financial Field, which will be home to both the Hounds of the Atlantic Baseball League and the Cavalry Soccer Club, is a major piece of Loudoun One, the residential, retail, and entertainment project in Ashburn that leaders hope will match the success of nearby Reston Town Center.

But construction of the stadium has to happen quickly.

It's set for a maximum capacity of 10,000 people and needs to be ready for opening day next spring.

But the project has faced resistance from people living at the nearby retirement community Potomac Green.

Residents like John Gannon worry about serious traffic problems along with a lot of noise and commotion.

"Quality of life for a seniors community such as this-there are a thousand homes here - will be negatively impacted," Gannon says.
