Explosion in Northeast D.C. neighborhood traced to fireworks in backpack
Residents of a Northeast D.C. neighborhood were shaken Sunday evening after they heard what they thought was an explosion in the 300 block of L Street.
Police say a man had some fireworks in a backpack and they went off. The backpack was dropped on the ground and the man fled.
A spokesperson for DC Fire says the fireworks apparently were M-80's, which are illegal to own in the District.
