Fake Ballou band members soliciting funds
Well known for trips across the nation like the Rose Bowl Parade, the Ballou High School band performed in the Inaugural Parade in January.
Now, there are multiple reports of scammers impersonating Ballou band members around D.C. recently.
One witness says young boys claim they're fundraising and even show a band picture, taking cash from people who think they're legit.
Each year, the band needs $40,000 to $50,000 to travel and perform. It must raise money, but through group events.
Ballou's band director Darrell Watson says, the band does not fundraise by going door to door asking for money.
"We would never send kids out without adult supervision,” Watson says.
