Fredericksburg named to "Virginia Main Street" list
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Fredericksburg and Ashland have been designated Virginia Main Street communities for their downtown revitalization efforts.
Gov. Bob McDonnell welcomed the two localities to the program on Friday, bringing the total number of communities that share the honor to 26.
Virginia Main Street is a program of the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. It provides technical assistance, training, and expert resources to assist the communities seeking to revitalize their central business districts.
Applications for new Main Street designations are accepted every three to five years. Communities seeking Main Street designations must have populations of 75,000 or less and be committed to a community approach that leverages volunteer investments.
