Budget cuts are looming in Hyattsville and the police department is expected to take some of the heat. The city is proposing $420,000 in cuts to the department. That would mean three less officers, according to Gazette.net.

Right now the department has 40 officers. It typically has 43. As part of the cuts, Hyattesville P.D. would not fill positions in its investigative unit, patrol and community action teams.

The budget needs to be passed before July 1st. That's when the 2014 fiscal year begins. Police Chief Douglas Holland will discuss his plans for the cuts at Monday's City Council hearing on the issue.
