A three-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 95 near Beltsville killed one person and left traffic snarled in both directions for hours, police say.
The accident, which involved a tractor-trailer and two cars just before 4 a.m., happened along I-95 south at around Exit 29-MD 212/Powder Mill Road in Beltsville.
The two cars: one red Toyota Celica and one black Infinity, were traveling Northbound on I-95 when they ran off the road. The reason as to why they ran off the road is not yet known.
The red car kept driving through onto the Southbound lanes after losing control. The car then struck the tractor-trailer. The driver of that car died on the scene. No one else was injured in the incident.
Maryland State Police says the two cars were not racing and the drivers did not know each other.
Several lanes of the highway were closed for hours after the crash.
The cause of the accident and other details are under investigation.
