Senators announce border security compromise
After months of talking, there is finally a compromise in the Senate on immigration – with Republican Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee leading the way and convincing what should be enough Republicans to get on board to pass the measure.
Democratic Senator Mark Warner of Virginia is also on board with the plan that focuses on increasing border security, doubling the number of border patrol agents to 40,000 and building a 700-mile fence along the US/Mexico border.
But according to Warner, knocking down the virtual fence separating party lines and building a bipartisan partnership in the Senate to pass the bill is just as impressive as the bill itself.
“You need to do whatever it takes to work together, and we’re finally doing that,” said Warner.
The Senate is expected to vote on and pass the multibillion dollar bill next week before it heads to the House for further scrutiny, and hopefully, more compromise.
