John Malvar to be honored at Washington Lee High School graduation
An Arlington High School senior that was killed in a skateboarding accident will be honored Thursday.
Washington Lee High School will hold a moment of silence for John Malvar during graduation ceremonies. His father will receive his diploma.
Arlington authorities say on June 4, 18-year-old Malvar was riding his skateboard while hanging on the driver's side window of a vehicle being driven by the 17-year-old. The 17-year-old high school student has been charged with reckless driving.
Officials say Malvar fell, hit his head on the road and died hours later at a Washington hospital.
The 17-year-old appeared before a judge in Arlington County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Tuesday. He was released to a parent.
A trial was set for Aug. 8.
