Michael Applebaum arrested: Montreal mayor investigated for corruption

Michael Applebaum, the mayor of Montreal, was arrested early Monday morning in the midst of a corruption investigation, the CBC reports.

The former Quebec-based real estate agent, who has participated in politics since 1994, has only been in office as Montreal's mayor since last November.

The city's last leader, Gerard Tremblay, resigned as mayor last Nov. 5 while he was under investigation for corruption and ties to organized crime, according to the New York Times.

The CBC reports that it's unknown whether Applebaum's arrest is connected to that specific corruption investigation.
