Power crews prepare for severe storms
Power crews and residents are preparing for severe weather in the D.C. area Thursday.
One of the biggest concerns is that the ground is saturated from recent heavy rains which could make trees vulnerable to high winds. Power companies say uprooted trees and fallen limbs are major contributors to downed power lines.
Dominion, Pepco and BGE all say they have crews ready and waiting to repair any damaged lines.
Meanwhile, many homeowners in the area are also preparing for high winds and heavy rains by securing outdoor furniture, clearing debris and even purchasing generators.
