Rashid Caviness-Bey found guilty in 2011 murder
A District man has been found guilty of shooting a teen to death two years ago.
Prosecutors say Rashid Caviness-Bey, 20, shot and killed Osman Al-Akbar, 19, during an attempted armed robbery in August 2011.
As he was biking from his girlfriend's home in Northwest, Al-Akbar encountered Caviness-Bey and two other teens near the 2600 block of University Place NW. The group tried to rob Al-Akbar and then shot him in the back three times, police say. He was shot a fourth time in the face and died in the street.
Police found Caviness-Bey and the other suspects hiding at the bottom of a basement stairwell nearby. Their guns were also found, along with clothing they tossed into trash bins.
Sentencing is set for August.
