Bryan Russell killed in NW double shooting
A man is accused of shooting and wounding his 79-year-old stepfather and then taking his own life and his relatives are now left wondering why.
Bryan Russell apparently took aim at his invalid stepfather and wounded 79-year-old Roy Russell.
Police say that the two men were shot near a home in the 500 block of Quincy Street NW.
Younger son Darren raced downstairs to find his father bleeding profusely. He says something set his brother off.
“Probably just talking or something like that arguing or something I don't know probably, got upset,” Darren Russell says.
Bryan Russell then went into the backyard and apparently turned the gun on himself, family members say. His family says after a stint behind bars he began to drink heavily.
Kevin Mohamed lives next door. he says he saw Bryan Russell last night and everything seemed normal.
“I went to take the trash out and I saw him playing with his dog and I said goodnight and that was it.
Those who know the two men involved in what is being investigated as an attempted murder suicide say they family couldn't be nicer. But Tuesday morning something went horribly wrong.
"I know them, very nice people,” says Derrick Collins. “Can't imagine him doing something like that."
